Jack Yule led the Norfolk challenge at Monday's regional qualifiers for next month's Open Championship at Royal Birkdale – but is unlikely to go any further in the third major of the year.
The amateur from King's Lynn finished in a tie for seventh at Luffenham Heath after a par round of 70 at the Rutland course but that was only good enough to be 55th reserve for next stage.
The only other local player to claim a top 20 finish was former Europro Tour professional Alex Holmes from Great Yarmouth and Caister who was tied 14th at Little Ashton following a round of 73.
Other scores: Luffenham Heath: Danny Western (Gorleston) 76, Chris Bartram (Diss) 78, Joshua Driver (Diss) 81, Ian Ellis (Great Yarmouth & Caister) no return. Sandy Lodge: Nic Cains (Swaffham) 74; Burhill: Ben Rawsthorne (Bawburgh) 74
More than 80 places were available over 13 venues for Final Qualifying which takes place next Tuesday.
