Alex Brundle continued to be the bridesmaid in the World Endurance Championship as the Kings Lynn racer rounded out his LMP2 sportscar campaign with another second place.
The King's Lynn racer has made a habit of finishing on the second step of the podium, a position he has occupied five times this year, and even completed the season in second place in the points table.
'It's our fifth top-three finish in eight races' said Brundle after the season's closing event.
'Congratulations to our team-mates in the number 35 car who won the title. Finishing first and second at Le Mans and first and second in the championship is a great result. We can also be satisfied that we brought number 24 into second place at Le Mans and in the FIA WEC.'
The final race of the season took place in Bahrain with the Norfolk racer taking over the car from team mate Oliver Pla just as night fell, the race at the Bahrain International Circuit being used as a test run for next year's Grand Prix which will switch to a night race under floodlights.
Brundle was quickly in the groove, lapping quickest of the LMP2 cars, and moved into fourth place before handing over to the team's third driver, David Heinemeier Hansson, at half distance in the six-hour event.
Pla was aboard once more for the final push which secured second place despite a late front bodywork change but with the sister OAK Racing number 35 car securing fourth place they missed the title by just seven points.
'Very proud to see my boy up on the podium' tweeted father Martin. 'P4 overall in 6hr race and second LMP2. Just missed winning the title'.
The Lotus name will return to the British GT Championship in 2014 with ISSY Racing planning to run an Evora GT4 for team owner Ossy Yusuf and Carlton Rode's Gavan Kershaw.
The Norfolk manufacturer was last represented on the British GT grid in 2012 with Phil Glew and Sailesh Bolisett campaigning an Evora GT4 engineered by the Long Stratton based Lotus Sport UK team.
Kershaw is the principal vehicle dynamics engineer for Lotus Cars and while he has raced a wide variety of machinery he is best known for wringing the very best out of the Norfolk built cars on race circuits around the world.
Yusuf has also raced in the British GT series, partnering Joe Osborne in a Ginetta G50 GT4 back in 2010, the category he returns to with the Norfolk built machine having shared the driving duties with Kershaw at the recent Lotus UK Cup Snetterton race in which they where victorious.
'I am truly excited about returning to British GT with such an iconic brand as Lotus and have a driving partner in Gavan that knows the car inside out' added an excited team principal Yusuf.
Annual Nutcracker returns
The annual Nutcracker meeting takes place at the Norfolk Arena on Sunday (1pm). In action are the Unlimited Bangers, 1500cc Bangers and Junior Bangers. Good turnouts are expected in all three classes of racing with the Unlimited Bangers seeing over 50 cars booked for action together with 60 1500cc Bangers in their National Championship and 30 Junior Bangers.
The big field of Unlimited Bangers sees a large number of Gladiators booked in which always guarantees plenty of action on track.
Local drivers booked in the Unlimiteds include National Points Champion Dave Vincent (Brandon) Ashley Bell (Lynn), Polly Reade (Dereham) and Tom Reynolds (Heachem).
The Predators are represented in big numbers with Ricky Twell, Luke Allen (both Lynn), Jay Chilton and Joe Barratt (both Wisbech) heading the line-up.
Chris Meddler (Norwich) will be looking to defend his National Championship victory in the 1500cc Bangers. Former champion Davey Cox (Swaffham) is also on the grid.
Other local drivers who have already qualified for the championship include Terry Garrod (Swaffham), Russell Gill, Ashley Watkinson (Lynn), Tony Pallett (Thetford), Rodney Thurgill (Walsingham) and Ashlun Woods (Fakenham).
Completing the action are the Junior Bangers who are contesting their inaugural Gold Roof Championship. Ben Cox (Swaffham) is on pole position for the main race with other local drivers looking to perform well including Charlie Barnes (Dereham) and Josh Davies (Lynn).
