Champions West Norfolk are off to the seaside tomorrow – but Nigel Richardson's heroes won't be allowed to put their feet up.

The North Wootton outfit wrapped up a sensational Greene King Eastern Counties Division One triumph with a game to spare last weekend and can enjoy a pressure-free visit to mid-table Southwold on the Suffolk coast.

But despite having got the job done by annihilating Mersea Island last time out, West's boss insists he won't be letting his title-winning players take it easy in the final game of their season.

Richardson, when asked if he'd be ready to relax tomorrow, said: 'If anyone knows West Norfolk Rugby Club, or me, or Larry (captain Lawrence Savage), or any of the players then that's definitely not the plan.

'The deck chairs might come out afterwards but we're on a roll, we're taking a coach instead of a minibus, and the players have got to keep focused on the way there. We've not been to Southwold in the last few years and came away with much. We've left there feeling slightly disappointed and I don't want to come away from Southwold feeling slightly disappointed at all.

'The season's not over until the whistle goes after 80 minutes tomorrow for me. We want to go out on a high. I will feel slightly deflated if we come away on Saturday with a loss to be honest. And the lads would be as well. They've put in too much hard work to start relaxing now.'

West, who will end the league campaign with a fantastic unbeaten home record, are poised to return to London North-East Division Three for the first time since their relegation in 2009.

Behind them, long-time title rivals Newmarket, second, and Ely – three points further back – go into the final round of fixtures hoping to finish directly behind the champions in order to qualify for the promotion play-offs.

Stalwart Savage, 36, is one of the few remaining members of the side that dropped down into EC One five years ago and he admits he's absolutely ecstatic to have helped West return to the level he used to compete at.

West's skipper, who has played for the club for 24 years, said: 'To be captain this year, I've come in at a very priviledged time I feel, there's been a great team around me. The coaching team headed by Chris Bird and Nigel as our manager who has done a lot of work behind the scenes that not everyone is aware of.

'For the lads I'm really happy. They've come into the season with such a tremendous attitude, focus and desire to do well and it's paid off.'
