West Norfolk will be looking to hit the ground running after enduring a frustrating fixtureless weekend.

The Greene King Eastern Counties Division One table-toppers were all prepared for a huge clash with their nearest rivals Newmarket before wet weather put paid to Saturday's match.

And now the North Wootton club will be looking to ensure their championship challenge doesn't get washed away at mid-table Woodbridge tomorrow.

Captain Lawrence Savage said: 'Naturally, we were bitterly disappointed to have to postpone the Newmarket fixture, but the recent weather had taken its toll on our pitches and player safety had to be taken into account.

'On one hand it does give a little more time to any injured players to work their way back into the team, but on the other it's also good to keep the momentum going from week to week. However, we weren't the only ones as the majority of league games were affected by waterlogged pitches.

'These games will most likely be rescheduled within the next few weeks, so we can expect a tough month ahead with some challenging away matches coming up.'

West narrowly edged the reverse encounter between the two clubs 19-15 so know a victory will not be easy to come by. Woodbridge have only won one of their last three matches but two of those were against Newmarket, second, and third-placed Ely. And their defeat to West's fiercest rivals only came by the slender margin of three points.

'We are now focusing on the game at Woodbridge on Saturday, who ran Newmarket close recently,' said Savage.

'It's been a couple of years since we got a result there, but I have no doubt that our squad will have the tools to take the attack to them and get the outcome we desire. As long as we are in the right mindset and maintain our composure and hunger, then the scoreboard will take care of itself.'

Flying winger Jake Richardson is likely to miss out as he recovers from the knee injury which would have ruled him out of last weekend's so-called title decider.

Newmarket, three points off the top having played a game less than the league leaders, host basement-boys Broadland-Great Yarmouth – incredibly the only side they have lost to this season.

Elsewhere, Swaffham, fourth, are without a game after losing 26-12 at Southwold in the only fixture which beat the wet weather on Saturday.
