Great Yarmouth Town secured a fifth-placed finish on the last day of the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division season thanks to a 4-3 win at Hadleigh.
The Bloaters’ win took them above both Thetford Town and Stanway Rovers on the final day to complete a memorable first season back in the Premier Division.
Sean Perfect gave Yarmouth the lead in the 35th minute thanks to a fine lob and they doubled their advantage shortly after when Cruise Nyadzayo sprinted clear before squaring to Jamie George to make it 2-0. The home side pulled a goal back just before the break to give them hope and they equalised just after the hour mark.
Yarmouth responded well though and George’s second of the afternoon put them back in front after a fine pass by Kyle Howell. A wonder-strike from Nyadzayo restored their two-goal advantage and as news filtered through of Stanway’s draw at Godmanchester, Yarmouth knew they had secured fifth place. Hadleigh pulled another goal back just before the final whistle but it proved academic for the Bloaters.
Yarmouth’s east coast rivals, Gorleston, also finished the season in style as they hammered Ely City 5-0 at Emerald Park.
The Greens had been in contention for the title before a late season slump saw them fall away from Mildenhall. However, they managed to end the campaign with an authoritative display as they finished fourth overall.
Jacob Short put Gorleston ahead in the 14th minute and Kyle Ingram ensured the Greens went in at the break two goals to the good.
Joel Watts celebrated being named the supporters’ player of the season with a second-half double and Luke Goreham made it 5-0 in the 90th minute.
In the battle at the bottom Swaffham Town lost 3-0 at home to FC Clacton, whose goals came through Jake Clowsley, Lee Clowsley and Sam Cripps.
Kirkley & Pakefield finished their season with a 2-1 win at home against Long Melford as they secured an 11th-placed finish whilst Fakenham Town warmed up for their Norfolk Senior Cup final later this month with a 1-1 draw at home to Walsham-le-Willows. Ashley Jarvis got the goal for the Ghosts.
In Division One Diss lost to Coggeshall 2-0 at home as they finished in sixth position whilst Dereham Town Reserves beat Leiston 1-0.
King’s Lynn Town Reserves were 2-0 winners at home to Whitton United but Downham went down to a 3-2 defeat at Debenham LC.
