There must be something in the air down Great Yarmouth way judging by the form of the local football teams.

Yarmouth – who lived up to their name by dishing out Bloaters sandwiches during half-time of Saturday's match against Ely – were back on familiar home territory at the Wellesley after a run of five away matches to start the new season.

And they made sure they kept the home fans – a best-of-the-day 139 – with a 2-1 victory.

Not to be outdone, local rivals Gorleston went to Wivenhoe Town and came home with all three points after a stunning 5-0 win.

It means that, while Mildenhall lead the way in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division, the Greens of Gorleston are second and Yarmouth are fifth.

Gorleston's was the standout result on a good day for Norfolk teams.

It was a clash between the last two unbeaten sides in the division, but Ricci Butler's team made a mockery of that particular statistic with a hat-trick from Connor Ingram, including a penalty, plus goals from Joel Watts and Kyle Ingram.

Yarmouth left it late to seal the points against Ely.

The Bloaters went behind on 65 minutes, but Mitch Forbes levelled from the penalty spot after Jamie George was fouled, and got the winners three minutes from time when he finished off a superb home move.

Fakenham Town's recovery goes on – they were 4-0 home winners over bottom side FC Clacton, with goals from Jimmy Williams (2), Josh Youngs and Kyle Plumb, while Thetford Town beat visiting Long Melford 2-0 and are now third. Cameron King set up Jordan Attree on 30 minutes to open the scoring and four minutes later Sam Bond scored a well-taken second.

In the First Division, Diss Town were 4-2 home winners over March Town United. Sam Bryant put the Tangerines ahead, and although the visitors equalised, Shaun Hundson put Diss ahead again before Bray gave them a 3-1 advantage at the break. Sam Page added a fourth before March pulled one back near the end.

Downham Town thumped visiting Leiston Reserves 6-0, while King's Lynn Town Reserves went down 1-0 at Stowmarket Town and Wisbech St Mary beat Cornard 2-1 in the fens.

Bottom of the table Dereham Town Reserves lost their eighth straight game, 2-1 at Needham Market Reserves.

Jack Friend's second hat-trick in as many games helped Wisbech Town to a comfortable 4-0 home win against Rothwell Corinthians in the United Counties League.

Michael Frew put Town ahead with his fifth of the season and Friend added two more before the break, completing his treble 12 minutes into the second half.
