Goals were the order of the day as local clubs gave themselves pre-Christmas treats – while some had to settle for the odd turkey.

Premier Division leaders Norwich United, dark horses Kirkley & Pakefield, Swaffham and Gorleston all found shooting boots tucked down their stockings – but for Fakenham and Thetford it was just stuffing.

Damien Hilton's United side were 4-1 winners at home to Newmarket Town, thanks to a brace from hitman Matt Blake and others from Adam Hipperson and Jamie Speller.

It leaves the Planters seven points clear of Felixstowe & Walton United and a whopping 13 ahead of third-placed Stanway Rovers.

Gorleston are 20th after beating Saffron Walden Town 3-0, their goals coming from Kyle Ingram, Peter Lambert and Joel Watts. The visitors had a player and their manager sent off in the first half.

Kirkley were 4-1 winners at Walsham le Willows, with goals from Kyle Baker (two), Ross King and Jack Smith.

The big scorers were Swaffham Town, who thumped Whitton United 7-0. The Pedlars were without a win in their previous 10 games, but came back with an almighty bang. Joe Jackson helped himself to four while there was a brace for Alex Vincent and one for Matthew Blackford.

Fakenham were on the receiving end of a 6-2 home hammering by Stanway Rovers. Kyle Plumb gave the Ghosts an early lead, but from then on it was one-way traffic, with Matt Franks scoring a consolation after Fakenham's Sam Garner was sent off for a second yellow.

Thetford went down 3-1 at home to Haverhill Rovers, with Shaun Hunsdon getting the hosts' goal.

Great Yarmouth Town were leading the local challenge in the First Division at the start of play on a day when they asked supporters to pay whatever they wanted to get in, a crowd of 94 saw them draw 1-1 with Halstead Town at The Wellesley.

The dropped points saw the Bloaters drop to fourth in the table.

The breakthrough the game – but not Yarmouth – desperately needed came after 72 minutes when a speculative bouncing ball was pounced upon by the lively Sam Cripps, who headed the visitors in front.

It jolted the lacklustre Bloaters into life, but they had to wait until a minute from time before sub Declan McAvoy equalised.

Kings Lynn Town moved up the table after a 7-1 home win over Needham Market. They were 5-0 up at half-time after goals from Alex Clunan, a Jack Frohawk brace, Karl Tansley and Eion McQuaid. Clunan got his second and Lynn's sixth before the visitors were gifted a consolation. Substitute Jamie Burgess completed the scoring with a long-range strike.

Downham Town lost 4-0 at Leiston while Diss Town drew 2-2 at Woodbridge, their goals coming from Jamie George and Jason Armes.
