Norwich United may be getting most of the plaudits as they lead from the front in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division – but they may be happy to share some of the praise with their last opponents, Fakenham Town.

The Ghosts were, like many others before them, put to the sword by Damian Hilton's men, losing 3-0 at home seven days ago – but it was one of those games where the scoreline perhaps didn't match the performance.

Wayne Anderson's Fakenham start the year in eighth spot – not shabby at all for a team which was promoted in the summer after a decade in the second tier.

Anderson takes his team to Stanway Rovers this afternoon hoping to start 2015 in style and he has been given a boost with the return of Kyle Plumb.

The big striker was back in the first XI for the first time this season at Norwich United after recovering from a foot injury. Plumb, the Ghosts' 2013/14 supporters' player of the season for his 22 goals in the promotion-winning campaign, gave the Planters a tough afternoon as he marked his return with a good performance.

'Plumby has trained hard in the last couple of weeks and has been desperate to get back in the squad,' said Anderson. 'He did really well against Norwich and kept the ball really well for us against a good centre-half who has played at a higher level in Greg Crane, who Plumby ran ragged. Now he needs to go and excel himself for the rest of this season and push himself on ready for next year.'

Plumb's return wasn't the only comeback as Lee Day started for only the third time in 2014/15 following injury and unavailability. The experienced centre-half is now available for the rest of the season and Anderson was pleased with his performance, as he also was with left-back Matty Dye who was back after an ankle problem.

'Lee Day didn't look like he had been away and up against some quality strikers, him and Josh Youngs looked comfortable,' said Anderson. 'He is as fit as a fiddle and it was great to see him back, just like it was to get Matty Dye back in the team.'

Norwich United will hope to expand their six-point lead when they host Hadleigh United – second-placed Godmanchester Rovers are without a game.

Gorleston, without a league win since October, will be hoping to inflict more misery on bottom side Diss Town at Emerald Park.

The Greens are beginning to turn the corner following a poor spell, with two draws in their last two games and showing improvements in their performance. Diss have just two victories in 22 games.

In the First Division, fourth-placed Swaffham host Long Melford, who are two places above them. Great Yarmouth Town, in eighth, are at Downham Town, Dereham Town Reserves are at Needham Market while King's Lynn Town's second string travel to Woodbridge Town.

• Thetford Town extended their unbeaten run to four matches with a 2-1 home win against lowly Ely City last night.
