A credible away point was not enough to prevent Diss Town's long-standing threat of Premier Division relegation from becoming a reality.

The Tangerines drew 1-1 at Thetford Town yet it wasn't enough as their unlikely hopes of avoiding the drop came to an end with three matches still to play. Ben Lewis scored for Diss as Mark Reeve's men did their best to maintain their dream of pulling off a the great escape.

Yet Ian Fawcett also found the net in the derby to send the Tangerines – who were granted a relegation reprieve last season – down.

Bottom side Ely City recorded a fantastic draw at Godmanchester Rovers yet they will also be joining Diss in Division One next season. If they win their two games in hand they will leapfrog Reeve's men in the table.

Both clubs' demise has owed plenty to Clacton's upturn in form which has seen them pull five points clear of the final relegation place – currently occupied by Wivenhoe Town. Kevin Coyle's 88th-minute winner for Clacton against the side directly below in the table yesterday made it four wins out of four for the Seasiders. Their vital win came in front of 301 spectators, the club's highest top-flight attendance of the campaign.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, the big derby between Gorleston and fourth-placed Kirkley & Pakefield was won 2-0 by the latter. The visitors' goals came through Ross Gilfedder and Miguel Lopez' penalty. The hosts' Keegan Middleton was sent off for recieving two yellow cards.

While the Premier Division honours – heading to Norwich United in the not-too-distant future – are all but settled, it is a very different story in the First Division.

A 34th-minute Mitch Forbes spot-kick was enough for Great Yarmouth Town to secure three points at overnight leaders Swaffham Town. The penalty ended the Pedlars' run of 10 successive victories and took Yarmouth into the promotion places for the first time this season, replacing long-time occupants Saffron Walden Town.

Walden lost at home against Haverhill Borough thanks to a second-half Aaron Forshaw penalty. The victory keeps Borough's slim chances of a top-three finish alive for their next match away to new leaders Long Melford – a point ahead of Swaffham having played one match more.
