Jamie Thurlbourne has parted company with King's Lynn Town, less than 24 hours after storming out of The Walks.

The frustrated winger was taken off at half-time on Tuesday as the Linnets went into the break 1-0 down against Lincoln United. And the 25-year-old didn't hang around to see his team-mates' five-star second-half display, opting to head for the road instead.

Now the former Cambridge United trainee's non-league career looks set for a different route after he agreed to join big-spending Spalding United on Wednesday.

Lynn boss Gary Setchell said: 'Jamie's not been performing by his own admission for the last couple of months so it was agreed it would be better if we parted company.

'He left the ground after being substituted and was probably more disappointed with his own performance. I think he was expecting to come off. He's totally lost his form at the club and can now try and regain it at Spalding.

'I haven't got time to wait for players to come back into form. I gave him opportunities on Saturday and Tuesday. He had two cracks at the whip, the door was open for him, and he didn't step through it.

'I helped him get his move to Spalding. He's totally lost his confidence. He just hasn't reproduced the form he showed in his first year here. We're playing at a better level than the UCL (United Counties League, where Spalding play) now but he's not reached the heights he did in that league. He's still a terrific footballer who I'm sure will go on to Spalding and do a fantastic job.'

Thurlbourne, who played with his twin brother Luke at Lynn until his departure in the summer, made 137 appearances for the Linnets. The left-sided player had been told he had a future at The Walks by Setchell less than two weeks ago after he rejected an approach from Wisbech Town.

But disappointing displays against Northwich Victoria on Saturday and Lincoln on Tuesday, which saw Thurlbourne get substituted in both, signalled the end of his two-and-a-half year stay in Norfolk.

His failure to remain at the ground during the Linnets' 5-2 midweek win was seemingly the last straw for a frustrated Setchell – who regularly started Thurlbourne at the start of the season.

The Lynn boss said of his former midfielder, who made 28 starts for Lynn this term, said: 'I won't have people walking out after being subbed. We're all in it together. It hasn't happened before and it won't happen again. Now I'm hoping to bring someone in soon and I'll keep looking. But Ryan (Fryatt) is back and we've got Spriggsy (Steve Spriggs) when we didn't think we would have so the squad's still in good shape.'
