Thompson’s treble helps Acle close in on Anglian Combination leaders Cromer
Acle closed the gap on leaders Cromer to two points as the Premier Division title race continued to build towards an exciting finish.
Cromer were without a game, and Acle took advantage with a 5-0 thumping of Mattishall, with Nathan Thompson bagging a hat-trick. Luke Goreham and Harry Maddison were also on target for Acle, who still have to play Cromer.
Blofield remain in contention after they also hit five, at bottom club Wells. Ben Morgan (2), Joseph Manning, Karl Mills and Elliot Jackson scored for Blofield, while Scott Sutherland-Gray and Carl Baldry netted for Wells in a 5-2 defeat.
The battle at the bottom is equally tight as relegation-threatened Hempnall and North Walsham both won.
Kurt Bardsley scored twice in Hempnall's 4-0 home win against Beccles, with Robert Bailey and Damien Didwell also registering.
Andrew Muir scored the only goal as Walsham beat fellow strugglers Wymondham.
Norwich St Johns moved up to fourth with a 4-3 win against St Andrews. St Johns' goals came from Lloyd Greening, Aaron Kay, Tyrone Bussens and an own goal, with Alex Ingham, Glen Spooner and Adam Brock netting for St Andrews.

Loddon United's 2-1 win at Sheringham saw them leapfrog their opponents in mid-table.
Kirkley & Pakefield Reserves remain just above Spixworth in the table after the two sides battled out a 2-2 draw at Walmer Road. Toby Kerslake and Alex Holmes found the net for the hosts, with Jamie Hunton and Adam Ferguson firing in for the visitors.
Dersingham Rovers maintained their six-point lead at the top of Division One with a 1-0 victory at home to Reepham. Lee Hyde scored the only goal of the game.
Andrew Clitheroe's hat-trick kept Long Stratton's feint title hopes alive in a 4-0 win at home to faltering Stalham.
Poringland beat Corton 2-0 with Matthew Elwin scoring both goals, but they now have only three games left and an eight-point deficit to Dersingham, who have four games to play.
The bottom two both revived their survival hopes with wins.
Xavier Huckle scored twice as bottom side Watton won 2-1 at Holt, Shaun Steed netting for the hosts.
Bradenham Wanderers also picked up a crucial three points, winning 2-1 at home to Brandon.
Oliver Ramsbotham and Ryan Seabright gave Wanderers a 2-0 lead, before Daley Tuffs replied for Brandon.
Hindringham are now just two points clear of Wanderers after losing 4-2 at home to Horsford. James Taylor, Scott McKinney, Ross Pantry and Paul Duncan were the visitors' goalscorers.
