Thetford Town 1, Whitton United 1

Thetford entertained Whitton United and with both in-forms teams looking for a win honours were even with a 1-1 draw.

Whitton made the early pace but town always looked dangerous on the break.

There were no real clear-cut chances with both keepers in control. Town should have taken the lead on 25 minutes when good work from Blake saw his pass to Bolton whose curling effort just went wide of the goal.

Bruno then had an effort just over the bar. Whitton quick on the break had a chance but the shot went wide. Town took the lead on 35 minutes when Dixon was pushed in the area and his spot-kick sent the keeper the wrong way.

Town could have increased their lead just before the break but a goal line clearance and desperate defending saw Whitton clear the danger.

The second half saw Whitton with some early pressure and Fancett saved well at the second attempt to deny a goal. Whitton equalised on 55 minutes when a clearance rebounded into the path of the Whitton forward who made no mistake to score.

The game went from end to end with the hard working Dixon and Blake causing problems for the Whitton defence and then it was towns turn to withstand Whitton pressure.

Town had a good chance in the closing minutes with Dixon going close but the game ended in a well-earned point for both sides.

Thetford: Fancett, Joseph, Richards, Carter, Bailey, Bolton (Jones), Howard, Clayton, Tavares, Blake (Mann), Dixon.

This Saturday town travel to Downham Town, 3pm kick-off.
