The main event on Oulton Broad was the Open Junior regatta for the RS Feva class.

After the wild forecasts and the storms of the previous week, it was lovely to see the sun again and light winds. A gentle shifty force 1-2 greeted the sailors not put off by the previous atrocious weather forecast. The training part of the weekend on Saturday had been cancelled, but five sports and seven pros had a great day's racing.

The Committee decided to have four races. It was good to see current world champion Will Taylor back in his pro, and he did a marvellous job, sailing upwind superbly and down wind increasing his lead. He won all four races by big margins. Local helmsman George Catchpole took second place and Nathaniel French came third.

The Sports had a far closer match. Archie Hainsworth won the first two races, but as the wind dropped Lucy Greenwood started to shine and the last two races produced some very close finishes with Lucy taking the honours. These two tied on four points each so Lucy won on count back with Archie second and Oscar Cubitt showed flashes of brilliance to take third place.

The wind was gusting up to Force 7 on the Broad on Saturday and only three races were sailed with two boats in each. Jake Smalls had an exciting race with Mike Beech with the lead changing several times as they fought to keep upright and he was at the front when it mattered.

Tera 560 won the Slow Handicap after his opponent had retired having suffered a bang on the head and John Lockwood held a convincing lead over his old boat in the Squibs.

Sunday saw better fleets. Alan Cone beat Jason Thomas in the Fast Handicap while Geoff Little won the Waveneys after passing early leader Phil Large with George Gower third. John Lockwood recorded another win in the Squibs from Ian Moore and Stan Cannell. Cone also won the second Fast Handicap race while Geoff Little repeated his win in the Mixed Keels, comfortably beating Gordon Stables who was well in front of John Lockwood.
