King's Lynn boss Tommy Taylor is confident striker Matt Nolan will stay after a heart-to-heart with his coveted striker.

Taylor accepts the ambitious sharpshooter wants to play at a higher level but expects Nolan to return for pre-season training on June 17.

"Matt told me Wednesday he's happy to come back which is really good news," revealed Taylor. "I would never stand in the way of any player if a Conference club came in for them - that isn't the case at present. I've told him to make me and King's Lynn look good by scoring plenty of goals to attract interest from clubs at that level or even higher.

"The lad is a player and if he does the business then we all benefit. Everything is fine now and I expect to see him at training with the other boys next month."

The 24-year-old fired 15 goals in 23 appearances following his Christmas release from Cambridge United after his early career was blighted by hernia and knee operations.

"I didn't know a great deal about King's Lynn, but I haven't felt as happy about my football in a long time," he said. "Tommy lets me go out and express myself on the pitch. Having the freedom to do what I want is important and playing under Tommy is definitely a big factor.

"The travelling side of things is not ideal but if I'm enjoying my football that isn't a problem. There has been interest from a couple of other clubs but I wanted to stay at King's Lynn. It was just a case of sitting down, seeing what was on the table and doing what is best for me. It's always been more about football than the money."

Nationwide South newcomers Bedford were strongly linked with Nolan but the Southern League play off winners lack the financial muscle to match Lynn's incentive-based package.

Eagles boss Nick Platnauer is desperate for fresh firepower after Rene Howe joined Kettering and Chris Dillon moved to Southern Premier club Hitchin this week.

Dillon's late hat trick sunk Lynn at the New Eyrie last season but the prolific striker revealed he was asked to take another pay cut to stay.

"I was offered significantly less than last year by the club to play at a higher level," he said. "On two occasions I turned Histon down for much more money. During last season I took a pay cut to help the club when finances were tight.

"The club is not in a position to strengthen the team on top of what we had last season which I feel you need to do when you go up a league."

Lynn's Eastern Division title-winning skipper Glen Fuff has agreed to stay at Nationwide South club Cambridge City.
