Two of Norfolk's brightest young cricketing prospects will challenge for a place in the England Elite Player Development set up later this month.

Callum Taylor and Matthew Taylor, both 15, who play for Swardeston, have been chosen to represent the London & East region at the Bunbury Cricket Festival at Repton School in Derbyshire.

The annual event features the cream of young cricket talent from across the country. At the end of the week the ECB's national performance manager David Graveney and his team of coaches will select a limited number of players for winter training at the ECB High Performance Centre in Loughborough.

Norfolk player/coach Chris Brown, who has worked with the pair as part of the Emerging Players programme run by the Norfolk Cricket Board, said: 'It is a superb achievement. Both of them have come through the Emerging Players programme and they are progressing on to further things.

'They both have bright futures in the game. Matthew will join the Northants Academy in September and only last week I spoke to Essex Academy director John Childs and he was very interested in Callum, who has also attended the Northants centre of excellence.

'The Bunbury festival is a great opportunity for them to showcase their skills in front of national selectors.

'They have both worked really hard and they are getting the rewards for that.'

Leg spinner Matthew, a student at Wymondham College, will captain the side. Batsman Callum, who attends Cromer High School, has featured in the East Anglian Premier League for Swardeston this summer and made 60 on his first team debut. Both players have progressed through the Norfolk youth development system, having started in the U10s.

The 26th Bunbury Festival takes place from July 22 to 27 and also features sides representing the Midlands, North and South & West. The teams will play a mixture of 50 over and Twenty20 games. Previous participants have included Andrew Flintoff, Michael Vaughan, Andrew Strauss and Graeme Swann.

Matthew and Callum – who are not related – will receive their festival caps from current England batsman Jonny Bairstow, who played at the Bunbury event as a youngster.
