Swaffham's senior golfers were celebrating for the second time in three years after securing a another win in the Hodds Salver at Eaton Golf Club.

They saw over their counterparts from Sheringham by three holes in an absorbing final, with the outcome in doubt right to the very end.

Players were able to test out their skills on some of the revised holes following Eaton's latest course improvements and the contest between two evenly matched sides was keenly fought.

At the turn, Sheringham lead pair Mark Hogan and Paul Underhill were two up against Swaffham's Trevor Barnard and Bill Neil. But with the next game the order was reversed as David Allender and Robbie Bryson had a two-hole advantage over Sheringham's Dave Ryan and Nick Fulford.

The third match was even closer, as Swaffham's Robert Frame and Barrie Croxford trailed Malcolm Poore and Fred Spink by the smallest of margins.

The final pairings saw Swaffham leading overall by just one hole in the match as Colin Wilkins and Andy Hancock appeared comfortable with a two-hole advantage over Sheringham's Paul Cunliffe and Grayam Peters.

Walking off the 18th green Swaffham's first and second pairs led by two holes and one hole respectively, but then Sheringham's third pair came in with a four hole win. This annual winter foursomes competition is for senior club golfers who do not play in the Myhill, Cullington or Barnard competitions but who still relish the idea of friendly competition. The series has gone from strength to strength and next autumn some 26 clubs will once again take part.

Meanwhile over 50 women played over 36 holes in Eaton Golf Club's Spring Event.

Karen Young won the Silver Division Scratch Cup (155) and Judi Walker the Handicap Cup (148).

In the bronze division Sherrell Chuter won the scratch event (198) and Annie Ng the handicap (150)

The cups were presented by the ladies' president Sue Wybar.
