SWAFFHAM 27, THETFORD 20: Swaffham came out on top in a close Eastern Counties Two derby.

Both sides kicked penalties in the first ten minutes but then Swaffham put together a fine phase of rugby which ended with a converted try in the corner.

Soon after, a neat interception by the right wing increased the Swaffham lead but a period of sustained pressure allowed Thetford to score near the posts and the conversion ended the half with the score at 15-10.

Thetford continued to attack the Swaffham line but it was the home side who scored next when Delaney was put into space to extend the gap to 20-10, and it looked as though the game was won when Callaby charged through to make it a 17-point lead. The visitors, however, thought differently and two quick tries brought Thetford back into the game with 10 minutes to go.

Swaffham had to dig deep but were up to the task and played out the last few minutes to secure a bonus point to put them equal second in the league.
