Gary Setchell may have suggested that King's Lynn Town's marathon is over – but Stuart Wall admit he's only just received his starting orders.

Lynn's boss, inset, concedes that the back-to-back promoted Linnets are not thinking about reaching the play-offs nor are they concerned about going down as they close in on a more-than-respectable mid-table finish. But while the campaign is coming to an end for the team as a whole, defender Wall's season is just beginning.

The 26-year-old made his first competitive appearance for Town since May, 2012, during last weekend's 3-0 win over Frickley Athletic and he knows he must continue to hit the ground running to ensure he's more involved next term.

The centre-back, who spent time on loan at Bedford Town as he recovered from an operation to rebuild his knee, said: 'I've got a connection with Bedford anyway because I was there three years previously before coming to Lynn.

'I owe them a massive debt of gratitude really. They gave me an opportunity to play Step Three (same level as Lynn), although they were fighting (against relegation) it probably benefitted me as I was defending quite a lot. I found Saturday alright (for Lynn). I think you could see for the first 10, 15 minutes that there there was a little bit of excitement from me.

'But as soon as that spell was over I was fine and just slotted back in. But it was a stepping stone again for me. I'm not fully fit, I'm still not fully happy with where I am in terms of personal and individual performance so I think there's still a lot more to come from me. But we've got six games left, hopefully I can contribute to those and then get a pre-season behind me so I can start kicking-on and showing my true colours.

'The season might have run its race but for me it's about showing my credentials. To say to Setch: 'Here I am, I'm available, and I want to be a big part in the way the club goes forward'. So for me, that race isn't over, it's only just beginning.'

Lynn, 10th, ended a run of five consecutive defeats last time out. But they will be without Jake Jones this afternoon, who netted against Frickley, as he begins a mammoth five-game ban for picking up two red cards in quick succession. Injured duo Ryan Fryatt and Ashley Timms are also suspended.

Skelmersdale are sixth but haven't won on the road since Boxing Day and need to get their campaign back on track if they are to bag a place in the end-of-season play-offs.
