Several members of England's Commonwealth Games team have already featured in the annual Eastern Daily Press Active Norfolk Sports Awards – and now it is nearing the time to make the selections for this year's accolades.

The Commonwealth Games has proved a marvellous platform for a host of Norfolk's finest young sportsmen and women.

Dereham shooter Mick Gault, former Harleston hockey star Richard Alexander and Great Yarmouth-born boxer Anthony Ogogo will all return with medals while world beating cyclist Emma Pooley and rising star teenage swimmer Anne Bochmann both did Norwich proud.

This year's seven awards have again attracted a bumper entry of high-quality nominees.

And with the closing date for entries looming on October 31 there is no time to lose if you are to make your nomination for any one of the categories.

We want you to tell us about your Norfolk sporting heroes your sporting role models and your sporting inspirations whether they are world champions or just the pride of your community.

We want as many nominations as possible from as many sports as possible from athletics to waterskiing and from bowls to yachting.

The winners will be announced at a special invitation-only awards ceremony to be staged at The Curve facility at the Forum in Norwich on Wednesday, November 10.

Awards will also be made on the night to the winners of the Norfolk Village Games.

Active Norfolk are once again delivering this event and all you have to do to get involved is ffill out our online form at www.edp24.co.uk/awards or www.activenorfolk.org/ sportsawards, giving us detailed easons for your choice so the judges can make informed decisions when the time arrives to debate the various contenders.

You can nominate as many times as you want in as many categories as you want and a panel of judges will decide the winners in all categories.

Judges will make their decisions on achievements in the 12 months from November 1 2009 to October 31, 2010.

All individuals nominated must reside in Norfolk or be involved with a Norfolksports club or organisation while all teams and schools nominated must be based in Norfolk.

Winners of the awards may be nominated by Active Norfolk for regional or national awards where corresponding categories exist.

• AWARDS CRITERIA

Sports Personality of the Year: The category for the sporting champion, the man or woman who has genuinely excelled in their sport. The award celebrates the individual but does not exclude those competing in team sports. Nominees must be aged 19 or over on October 31, 2010.

Team of the Year: They don't have to be world-beaters, or even county champions. This category salutes those who have shown what can be achieved by working together.

Coach of the Year: The category for those behind successful teams or individuals. The people in the background whose expertise and dedication has helped make it happen.

Young Sports Person of the Year: An individual award which does not exclude those competing in team sport. Nominees must be aged 18 or under on October 31.

Keith Peel Services to Sport Award: The category for the 'unsung heroes', without whom no sports club or team could function. Someone who rarely takes the limelight or the credit but deserves to get a pat on the back.

Sports School of the Year: The category for the school that gives its pupils a wide range of opportunities to participate in high quality PE and extra-curricular sport.

Inspirational Sports Person of the Year: A chance to nominate a person you truly admire – either for their success in the face of adversity or continued high performance.

Active Norfolk Winner of Winners: Our overall category where all winners are automatically short-listed. Judges will consider the impact made by all of them in the Norfolk sporting community.
