Wolverhampton 61 King's Lynn 29

King's Lynn suffered their second defeat against Wolverhampton in the space of four days as they were thrashed 61-29 at Monmore Green.

The struggling Stars saw their tough run continue as they were condemned to a resounding loss against a play-off bound Wolves side who triumphed 52-40 at the Adrian Flux Arena just last week.

The home side underlined their Elite League title credentials with a dominant display as the Norfolk outfit were on the receiving end of their ruthless showing.

Reigning World Champion Tai Woffinden struck a paid 14 point haul to lead them to victory as King's Lynn recorded just three race wins and accounted for 13 last places.

Their evening got off to an encouraging start as No.1 Niels-Kristian Iversen roared to a comprehensive heat one victory over Freddie Lindgren.

The Grand Prix ace smashed Darcy Ward's Monmore Green track record, lowering the time by almost a full second as he crossed the line in 52.69 seconds.

But when Iversen next appeared in heat six his side were 12 behind and he was tasked with igniting their comeback hopes with a tactical ride.

He was left standing at the start as the imperious Woffinden raced clear and partner Jacob Thorssell blasted around the outside of Troy Batchelor for a devastating 5-1.

Rory Schlein did attempt to resist the Wolves onslaught with a classy victory in heat nine – yet Iversen was excluded after coming down on the opening bend of the very next race.

At that stage their hopes were already all but over – and the hosts showed no mercy as the Stars suffered a crushing defeat.

Iversen endured a tough night after his opening ride success, although he did end on a high by dusting himself down from a heat 15 crash to win the rerun and deny Woffinden a paid maximum.

Under-fire No.5 Troy Batchelor put in an error-strewn performance whilst Kai Huckenbeck plus guesting reserve duo Nathan Greaves and Tom Perry struggled to make an impact.

Robert Lambert was perhaps the pick of the King's Lynn riders with a typically determined display including a brave heat 14 ride as he attempted to split Wolves duo Woffinden and Jacob Thorssell.

Departing skipper Rory Schlein claimed a composed heat nine victory on his final appearance before being replaced by Nicklas Porsing.

The Stars were simply beaten by a better side in every department and will be desperate to respond when they host Lakeside at the Adrian Flux Arena on Thursday (7.30).
