King's Lynn Stars 50

Wolverhampton Wolves 40

Youngsters Robert Lambert and Lewis Kerr celebrated their call-ups to the provisional Great Britain squad by helping the Stars preserve their unbeaten home record.

Lambert and Kerr were in scintilating form at the Adrian Flux Arena, while there was a sudden return to form by the recently out-of-sorts Kenneth Bjerre.

The two title protaganists were all-square after six heats before Bjerre helped the Stars pull clear of their rivals to go second in the Elite League standings.

A low sunset delayed the start of the top-four clash by some 20 minutes and once the action did get underway there was little to separate the two teams in the opening exchanges.

After a shared first heat, the Wolverhampton reserve pairing of Lewis Blackbird and Josh Bates stunned the home faithful by teaming up for a surprise 5-1.

Lynn returned the favour swiftly with Bjerre leading home Rory Schlein for a home maximum in the next.

Honours remained even in the next three outings - but only thanks to a brilliant pass by Lambert, on the inside of Jacob Thorssell, on the second bend of heat five.

The Stars finally got their noses in front for the first time in heat seven as Bjerre took the race spoils with Niels-Kristian Iversen back in third.

There was an element of luck about the Stars' first heat advantage of the night after Iversen atoned for an earlier blemish by cutting past the wide-running Kyle Howarth on lap three.

Lynn repeated the dose in the next thanks to Kerr's second race win of the night and a reserve switch saw the homegrown talent straight back out in the penultimate race before the interval.

But it was Lambert who stole the show as he brushed aside Ricky Wells with ease as Lynn stormed home for a 5-1.

The Stars extended their lead to 11 points going into the break as Bjerre bagged his third success of the evening ahead of team-mate Rory Schlein in third.

Wolves used former Lynn rider Peter Karlsson as a tactical ride in heat 11, but he failed to get the better of a rival as Lambert followed home Iversen to make the score 40-26.

Three shared heats followed, but by then the three league points had already been signed, sealed and delivered.

Wolves salvaged some pride with a maximum in the last as Wells led home Freddie Lindgren.
