King's Lynn moved up to sixth place in the Elite League table with 48-41 win as Coventry once again proved to be a happy hunting ground.

The Stars were weakened but came up against a home side who had been forced into a succession of changes reminiscent of Lynn's own season, including no senior guest facility for European Championship-bound No.1 Krzysztof Kasprzak.

The two much-changed sides served up a close meeting with some of the lesser lights excelling, as Michael Palm Toft proved an excellent choice of guest and Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen put in another great show at the Midlands venue.

Palm Toft combined with an outstanding Niels-Kristian Iversen for a 5-1 in the opening race which allowed the Stars to lead the early stages, although the home reserves kept their side in contention.

The visitors lost Carl Wilkinson in heat four when he spun on turn one having been overhauled by Kacper Woryna, and was clipped by the closely-following James Sarjeant.

Wilkinson was withdrawn with rib damage, which meant an even busier night for Jakobsen who took all seven permissible rides to great effect.

Coventry had a trump card reserve of their own in Adam Roynon, who made fast starts to win both heats five and nine to collect a pair of 4-2s with Ben Barker, Jakobsen working overtime in the latter race to maintain second place.

The Bees led by four points with five heats to go, but that was halved with a Lynn 4-2 in the eleventh as Troy Batchelor led from the front whilst Jakobsen made ground from a penalty for exceeding the time allowance to round Roynon for third place. Jakobsen then headed a 3-2 in heat 12 as Sarjeant slipped off, and Iversen and Batchelor combined to squeeze out Chris Harris for a big 5-1 in the next to put the Stars three points up.

And it was all over in the very next race with Batchelor flying from the outside and Jakobsen superbly getting the better of King to give the Stars some late cheer as the end of a tough season approaches.
