Wisbech Town signed a former international - and then celebrated by producing one of the outstanding FA Cup first qualifying round results. They won 2-0 on Saturday against Bury Town, who stepped up into the Ryman League after finishing Ridgeons League Premier Division runners-up last season. Dereham Town and Lowestoft Town also made progress, respectively winning 4-3 at Needham Market and 3-1 at Canvey Island, but Wroxham went out 3-1 to Woodford United. Liam Nimmo and Danny Hussey scored for Wisbech at Ram Meadow, where 34-year-old Evaldo Ribeiro Lopes made his debut at right-back.

A professional in Portugal for 12 years and at one time tracked by Arsenal, he played for Guinea-Bissau, the country of his birth, in a World Cup qualifier against Mali in 2003.

Dereham led 3-1 at half-time at Needham Market, were then pegged back to 3-2, had Ollie Willis sent off for throwing the ball at an opponent after winning a free-kick, went 4-2 up, but then had to endure a tense final five minutes after conceding a third goal.

Graham Barrett (penalty), Nicky Howell, Craig Terrington and Ollie Willis were their scorers.

Ali McKenna, Jamie Stokeld and Richard Woodrow were on target as Lowestoft booked their place in today's second qualifying round draw.

Trailing 2-0 at the break, Wroxham hit back through Shaun Howes in the 75th minute, but their joy was short-lived as Glen Hawkins then scored his second goal of the game for Canvey Island.

Kirkley, meanwhile, beat CRC 1-0 (Leon Harewood) at Walmer Road to move up to second place in the Ridgeons League Premier Division, on goal difference from Soham and Newmarket.

Mildenhall are the new leaders after a 6-0 spree at Clacton.

Norfolk teams now occupy the bottom three places, with Norwich United bottom after a 3-0 defeat at Woodbridge, who had started the day in that position.

Diss Town paid for missed chances in a 2-2 (Danny Partridge and Dale Vince) draw with Harwich at Brewers Green Lane and are third from bottom, on goal difference from King's Lynn Reserves, who lost 2-0 to Halstead at The Walks.

Swaffham Town went four points clear in Division One when they won 4-0 (Kevin Leggett 2, Quincy Collins and Andy Hunter) at Hadleigh while Debenham LC drew 3-3 at Long Melford.

Yarmouth Town won 4-0 at Godmanchester and are now 10th, just above Thetford Town, who beat March 2-1 (Ross Bellingham penalty, Karl Pask) at Mundford Road.

Gorleston are just below Thetford, on goal difference, after beating Cornard 5-1 at Emerald Park, where Matty Bowles, Robbie Halfnight, Gary Ingram, Chris Squire and Gary Todd were their scorers.

Fakenham Town drew 3-3 (Steve Johnson, James McManus and Shaun Rebreck) with Whitton at Clipbush Park and are 13th, with Downham Town still bottom of the table, without a point, after losing 3-2 to Ely.
