Southwold 30 Stowmarket 27: Top-of-the-table clash is a real classic

Southwold scored a dramatic late try to see off their title rivals in what was surely one of the finest games ever seen on the Common.
Wold came out on top with a bonus point win and Stow deservedly gained a bonus point, putting both teams back level on 66 points at the top of London Three Eastern Counties.
The home side opened the scoring in under a minute when the ball was fed out to Callum Anthony at fly-half who drew the defence in before feeding Jacob English with a perfect pass to score under the posts.
They stretched their lead to 12-0 when a move down the wing ended with Josh Wallis running in, with Sammy Harmer this time missing the target with his kick.
Harmer added three more points from a penalty but Stowmarket rallied like the good team they are and after some prolonged pressure their forwards were rewarded with a well deserved try to reduce the arrears before a penalty made it 15-10 at the break.
Stow came out fighting in the second half and in under four minutes had taken the lead when they kicked for the left corner from a penalty, won good lineout ball and smashed over for a great try which was converted.
Another Harmer penalty restored Wold’s lead just two minutes later before Stowmarket replied with three points of their own.
Both teams upped their game as the match progressed and Wold grabbed the lead back when the ball flew down the back line to the right and Harmer fed Cemil Duruk who wriggled and turned his way over the line. The conversion by Harmer was good and Wold had a little daylight at 25-20 with only five minutes left.
Two minutes before time the referee gave a free-kick against Elliot McDaniel for a delay in putting the ball in at a scrum. Stow acted with great speed and span the ball, scoring another try with only a minute plus added time left, with the conversion putting them two points ahead.
Wold kicked off knowing the game would stop at the next whistle. They simply kept possession, working their way up the field until the ball span out to Duruk who dived over in the corner for a try that sealed a superb home win. The kick conversion was missed and that ended the game.
