Norwich City winger Simon Whaley has left the club after his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.

Whaley, signed from Preston North End last summer by former manager Bryan Gunn, made just six starts for the Canaries at the start of the season.

However, he quickly fell out of favour with current boss Paul Lambert and was shipped out on loan to League Two clubs Rochdale and Bradford, scoring three goals in 15 appearances in three months away from Carrow Road.

The started his career with hometown club Bury, before moving to Preston in January 2006, bagging 17 goals in 131 games before his switch to Norfolk.
