Setchell admits holding ‘positive’ talks with Spriggs about return to King’s Lynn Town

Spriggs, 23, left the Linnets at the end of March to play for Swedish professional outfit Ytterhogdals IK after declaring it had been his life-long ambition to play abroad.

The former Wroxham and Ely City player, who scored 19 times last season, was sorely missed as Lynn's title-hopes fell apart in April and Setchell said he now hopes Spriggs will return to the club when he flies home this summer.

Setchell said: 'Me and Steve never fell out and he went with the club's best wishes, even if his departure couldn't have come at a worse time.

'A lad who can score almost 50 goals from wide-right in two seasons is clearly an asset. He's a good player. I've spoken to him and he's interested in coming back. He loves King's Lynn and I'd be a fool not to try and get him back here.

'We've had a positive chat and once he's home we'll have a meeting to try and finalise a deal. I just need some reassurances from him to make sure I get full commitment. He missed the start of one season because he was in Ayia Napa and left with five or six weeks to go of this season.

'We'll sit down and go through a few things but I'm determined to get our right-winger back.'

The former Cambridge United Academy player scored an incredible 45 goals in 97 appearances for Lynn after joining from Wroxham in June 2010.

Spriggs, who is close friends with Linnets captain Ross Watson, opened the door for a likely return at the weekend when he said on Twitter: 'Right. I'll set the record straight. I have spoken to Setch and we are going to meet in the summer and take it from there. Sorry to mess you all about, was just a bit of banter.'

Setchell will meet chairman Buster Chapman this week to discuss his budget for Step Four football next year after Lynn achieved their dream of getting promotion - despite finishing runners-up.

The Lynn boss said he will also speak to all of his players on Saturday to discuss their individual King's Lynn futures.
