Honest King's Lynn Town boss Gary Setchell admits he has learned from his own mistakes last season as his fully-fit squad close in on the United Counties Premier Division title.

The Linnets boss has rotated his players to excellent effect in recent weeks to keep his charges refreshed for a title race that looks destined to go right to the wire once again.

After narrowly missing out to St Neots last season, Setchell believes the experience continues to stand him - and his squad - in good stead as they look to pick up another valuable three points against Stewarts & Lloyds (S&L) Corby at The Walks tonight (7.45pm).

Setchell said: 'You're always learning in football and although I'm a relatively young manager I admit I didn't manage the players as well as I could have done last season.

'It's something I've learned because we had 60-odd games and the players were out on their feet at the end of the campaign. Now though I've got rest into players when I've been able to and I'd say it's been key.

'I've pulled people off, left them out and I'd say that most of the players are now coming into some really decent form or playing as well as they have all season. It's very encouraging.

'We've got no injuries, we have 18 fit players including new signing Kieron Davies who will be involved in the squad tonight, and we have the two youngsters (Ciaran Beales and Chris Ward) who can come in as well if needs be.'

Lynn edged a 2-1 win at mid-table S&L in January who have since lost joint manager Daren Young to rivals Corby Town where he has become assistant.

The Foundrymen lost 2-1 at St Ives Town on Saturday, their first away league defeat since November, while table-topping Lynn stretched their unbeaten UCL run to six months with a 5-0 victory at Wellingborough Town.

Setchell said: 'After the great win over Peterborough Northern Star perhaps the first 20 minutes against Wellingborough brought us back down to earth a little bit.

'But once we scored we relaxed and we were superb in the second half. The lads have been different class this season and we just need to keep going for our remaining six games.

'Luke Thurlbourne doesn't say too much but on Saturday he said to me 'there's far more togetherness this year'. When people get left out they've not been knocking on my door and sulking. They've just got on with it and that's been vital.'

Second-placed Long Buckby, seven points behind the Linnets with two games in hand, host Cogenhoe United this evening.
