Norwich City have signed Darel Russell in £600,000 deal from Stoke City.

The 26-year-old, who left Carrow Road for Stoke four years ago, is seen by manager Peter Grant as the ideal replacement for Dickson Etuhu, who completed a £1.5m switch to Sunderland over the summer.

Potters boss Tony Pulis was loathe to lose the midfielder but Russell has just moved into the last year of his contract at the Britannia Stadium and could lose him for nothing next year.

Charlton were also keen on the midfielder but it is understood the pull of playing back in front of the Carrow Road faithful has been a clinching factor in Russell's decision.

Russell is the second player Grant has brought back to Norwich this summer, after the Canaries boss moved to sign Colchester striker Jamie Cureton at the end of last month.
