Royal Cromer’s Amber Ratcliffe named in England team
Royal Cromer youngster Amber Ratcliffe is one of four new caps named in the England team which will defend their title at the Girls' Home Internationals at Radyr Golf Club, Wales, from August 7-9.
Together with Gabriella Cowley of Essex, Shelby Smart of Gloucestershire and Olivia Winning of Yorkshire Amber will join four established internationals in Wales – Georgia Hall of Dorset, Meghan MacLaren of Northamptonshire, Elizabeth Mallet of Warwickshire and Brogan Townend of Lancashire.
They were all members of last year's team which won the event for the fourth year in a row.
Amber, 16, has twice been English U16 schools' champion and last year won the girls' title at the Fairhaven Trophies. She represented Great Britain in the inaugural junior Vagliano Trophy match and recently won her second successive Norfolk Ladies Amateur title at Sheringham. She also went straight from her exams to represent Norfolk in County Week at Purdis Heath earlier this month.
Meanwhile, the Norfolk Girls' Championship is looming, with King's Lynn Golf Club playing host to the county's top youngsters on Sunday, July 15.
There is still time to enter a competition that caters for a variety of abilities and potential players should visit www.norfolkladiesgolf.co.uk for more information. They can also contact county junor organiser Carol Delf on (01692) 670242.
The event is open to girls under the age of 18, with a scratch championship for the leading players and a birdie championship played on a Stableford points system for those with handicaps between 25 and 36. Competitors will be attempting to emulate the achievement of Jennifer Hide, who won the tournament last year at Thetford. This year's event is being sponsored by Rigby Taylor products for Turf Management Professionals and Hayes and Storr solicitors.
