Carl Robinson and his wife may not quite be the Posh and Becks of Canadian soccer, but they are happy to accept their shock move across the Atlantic has been somewhat overshadowed.

Robinson, the Wales midfielder and former Norwich player, has headed in the same direction Los Angeles-bound David Beckham will this summer by deciding to move across the world in search of a new life. Now he will be delighted to rub shoulders with the former England captain in Major League Soccer.

Robinson, 30, has just quit Norwich for a new life with newly-formed club Toronto.

He said: “I'm not quite getting the money Becks is getting, but this is a lifestyle change for me I have been considering for some while, and having David Beckham playing in the same league can only help the profile of soccer in the States and Canada.”

Robinson has no intention of retiring from international football. He said: “I don't intend to give up on the Wales squad, I'm a proud Welshman and want to keep playing for my country.

“It's only a six-hour flight back to the UK, and having endured a few six-hour coach trips from Norwich to places like Burnley over the years, it will not be any problem for me.”
