Mick Gault is known across the globe – but he isn't the only shooting sensation from our area to be recognised as a world-class competitor.

King's Lynn born Aaron Heading heads to Glasgow as a defending Commonwealth champion having won the singles trap in Delhi four years ago as well as picking up a bronze alongside David Kirk in the discipline's pairs.

Glory in the 2013 World Cup kept up the Long Sutton clay target shooting marksman's hot streak which continued when he and 10 others earned selection from an initial training squad to land an England slot for their country's appearance in Scotland.

Heading said: 'It feels amazing, but as always there's a lot of hard work to do. It's my life, everything in my life revolves around shooting, it's a fantastic sport to be involved in.'

The 27-year-old switched guns from Gamba last year and secured a high-profile sponsorship deal with Beretta. And even though he's got a long, long way to go to match pistol shooter Gault's haul of 17 Commonwealth medals, and counting, England chiefs hope he can go on to have a similarly successful career.

The Glasgow squad of 11 brings the shooting team's total number to 25 and includes BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year Amber Hill. Steve Scott will also be looking to defend his Delhi title (double trap pairs) while Charlotte Kerwood and Rachel Parish, who won four medals at Melbourne, 2006, are reunited after their events returned to the programme.

Head coach John Robinson said: 'We have a very strong squad, and a very good team as well. Talent wise we've got defending Commonwealth Games gold medalists, two or three who have been to the Games before and we've got some up and coming shooters. They're all in the Great Britain team as well, so they've had the opportunity to shoot a couple of World Cups and a European Championships going into the Commonwealth Games, which gives you an idea of the strength of the squad.'
