Gary Setchell insists Dan Quigley's performances continue to justify his decision to bring him to King's Lynn Town.

The midfielder's arrival in the summer was met with scepticism by some fans who remembered his wild celebrations in front of them after Long Buckby had beaten the Linnets to keep their title hopes alive last April.

The 22-year-old's former club pipped Setchell's men to the UCL Premier Division title, but his antics have now been forgotten following a string of all-action displays for Lynn this term.

Quigley delivered another one on Saturday with a hat-trick inspiring The Walks outfit to a 3-2 home win over Newcastle Town. And he was impressive again during Tuesday's 2-1 win at Romulus, especially in the second half, leaving Setchell delighted with the man who is becoming a fans' favourite.

'He deserves it,' said Setchell. 'If there's a player who's given everything for the cause in every training session and every game it's him. He's never injured and he's so, so keen. He came here under a massive cloud and supporters didn't want me to bring him in because of something silly off the pitch.

'But I believed in him and I saw something in him. When he played against us for Buckby he was always a thorn. He was first to everything and he was a pain in the rear end so to speak.

'He's a good player. He's learning his trade still and he's only 22. I think he fully deserved all the plaudits he got from Saturday. He's probably done better than I thought he would but I still think he will improve.'

Quigley's weekend treble, which included a penalty, was his seventh goal in 37 appearances for the Linnets.

The only player to have played more games for the club this season is Steve Spriggs. Lynn's top goalscorer has featured 38 times.
