Quicksilver the quickest in Buckenham Sailing Club’s final race

Buckenham Sailing Club held the last race of their season on Sunday – the annual Christmas Chinese Handicap Pursuit Race.

Toppers Yoyo and Eclipse sailed by Harry Pettitt and Joseph Burrell respectively were the first away but made slow progress in the light airs and strong tide. Solos, Lasers, Phantoms and Javelins joined the race and it was the two Javelins that sailed through the fleet – Quicksilver sailed by Ben and DIck Fisher taking first place followed by Chirs Skedge and Chris Clitheroe in second place. Phil Gooch in Solo Witchway finished in third place.

Sailors and club members then enjoyed the traditional Christmas punch and festive fare in the club house followed by prize giving. Ben Fisher received the Tangier Trophy for the WInter Series and also the Winter Allcomers Trophy. Other trophies presented were the Bland Payne Trophy to Jackie Howard for outstanding contribution to the club and the Deric Ham Memorial Trophy to Janet Gilmour for life long contribution to the club.

Members will be back on the water when sailing starts in April.
