Boxing's return to the Norwich sporting calendar continues next month – with the prospect of a much-needed TV cash injection on the horizon.

Cromer brothers Michael and Ryan Walsh will both be involved in title fights, while Norwich's former Commonwealth heavyweight champion Sam Sexton has been added to a quality local bill.

The success of the sport's return – dubbed The Homecoming – to the city last month has not only brought promoter Mervyn Turner back for a promised second instalment, on November 10, but has also attracted TV interest.

'Highlights of the last show went out on the Sky ringside programme and they will be there once again to witness the exciting boxing that Norfolk has to offer,' said Turner.

'We have also had interest from other channels to put all our Norfolk shows on a major station and negotiations are well under way. This would also involve local companies in partnership with ourselves who want to take advantage of joining a high profile brand on a major television platform.'

TV cash is the lifeblood of the big shows, but for now the intention is to develop local talent.

Michael Walsh will defend his Masters title and brother Ryan will be fighting for the International Featherweight title, with Sexton making his ring return after his tilt at the British title against David Price in May.

City fighters Nathan Dale and Scott Moises will also be on show again, with two fresh faces joining them – Norwich-based youngster Joe Payne, making his ring debut, and Chatteris novice Jordan Gill.

Turner said: 'We had a great show last time round and we thought it was important to carry that momentum forward and get the lads out again before Christmas.

'We always said we wanted to bring boxing back to Norfolk on a regular basis so it's nice to be able to do just that. We had a lot of interest from the last show, not just from the great boxing fans in Norfolk but from boxers and trainers alike.

'It has always been our intention to be open and make boxing available to all the aspiring young talent in the county. I said last time that I hoped to light a spark under the huge support that the sport has through all the gyms and amateur clubs. I know from numerous conversations since the show that I think we are well on the way to achieving that. We provide excellent management and promotion so these young people can take advantage. It will not be long before Norfolk has a thriving professional sport and no doubt future champions.'
