Bungay Bowls Club host their first open tournament of the season, the President's Shield triples sponsored by Wightman's of Bungay, on Sunday – with an entry of 20, including last season's four finalists.

Wightman's is sponsoring the event for a second year, but looking to complete a hat-trick of President's Shield titles is the Laxfield/Leiston trio of Jack Newnham, Grenville Wright and Mick Battle. Last year they beat the Costessey Crown triple of David Skipper and, the year before, Beccles Caxton trio of Trevor Wright who won the title in 2007. Both beaten triples are entered on Sunday along with the Don Brealey triple from Oulton Broad, who finished third last year, and the Kessingland triple from Peter Woodgate, who lost in the third-place final to Don. The host club are represented by entries from Nick Harmour, and Ann Swanston.

Qualifying matches start at 9am with the finals at 4pm. Spectators are welcome and refreshments will be available. The club still has places available for tournaments on June 17, July 15 and August 12. For more information visit the club's website at bungaybowlsclub.co.uk or contact Ian Gosling on 01986 892982.
