Gary Setchell insists King's Lynn Town remain in control of their play-off destiny as they aim to turn up the pressure on the top five.

The Linnets have slipped five points outside the prized positions as a result of their recent inactivity. That mini break has allowed most of the club's Southern League Premier Division rivals to complete the majority of their games in hand – leaving the picture looking less pretty than it did a week ago.

Saturday's postponement against Hungerford Town slowed Town's charge to reach the end-of-season shoot-out. But Setchell is still feeling upbeat as his men prepare to host Dorchester Town this afternoon.

He said: 'I think we need seven (wins) from 11 (matches). I think seven from 11 will definitely do it now because we've picked up a couple of crucial draws.

'Seven from 11 is do-able. If we do it that would mean we've lost something like 16 matches and still made the play-offs, which is unbelievable really. I think we're capable of doing it.

'If we can reproduce in the next 10 games what we've done in the last 10 we'll make the play-offs easily. We could even make fourth or third. It is going to be tough but it's in King's Lynn's hands, purely because of the fixtures we've got.

'We've beaten the top three here, we've just got to make sure we beat the next three under them and we'll have put ourselves in a great position.'

Dorchester arrive having fallen down the table themselves. They now sit 11th, nine points away from the promised land but still believing they can finish above the dotted line.

Lynn lost 2-0 in the return but have a great record against the so-called best sides in the division – which is why Setchell remains in a bullish mood ahead of another important fixture.

He also saw several of his first-teamers get vital minutes under their belt in midweek during the reserves' 3-1 Norfolk Senior Cup semi-final defeat to Dereham Town at The Walks.

Setchell added: 'Off the back end of last season really, where it was pretty hard work, we came into a new season with a new squad and a new league and didn't start great.

'We got a win at Cirencester and I think the Poole (3-2 win in September) game here was a real turning point for us. We've got Weymouth, Hitchin, Hungerford and Dorchester – they're all teams around us who are equally going for the play-offs. These are massive games for us and we've got to use the club's full potential – players, supporters – together to try and win these matches.'
