Jason Turner's brace and goals from Jordan Yong, Jack Defty and Robbie Harris helped King's Lynn Town open up a 10-point gap over Long Buckby in the United Counties Premier Division title race tonight.

On a night where Buckby's home game against Cogenhoe United was postponed because of more floodlight issues, Lynn edged a vital win to crank up the pressure on their nearest rivals who have played three games less.

Danny Beaumont could have opened the scoring inside the first couple of minutes but he sidefooted Ross Watson's flick-on wide.

Fine play between Beaumont and Defty down the right-hand side soon allowed Hughes space to whip in a fine centre but Jamie Thurlbourne's header was directed straight at keeper Richard Lavin.

The wideman went even closer in the 20th minute when his in-swinging free kick from the right-hand side of the box forced Lavin into a fine fingertip save.

However, despite early non-stop home pressure, Alex Street was forced to make a fine save when he flung himself to his right to parry Paul Caswell's well-hit half volley.

The effort seemed to inspire Corby who enjoyed their best spell of the game in the latter stages of the half and striker Caswell went close with another decent long-range effort.

The impressive target man did help open the scoring – at the wrong end – when he clattered through Watson minutes before the break to give away a clear penalty.

In-form frontman Turner calmly slotted the penalty home for this third goal in two games to give Gary Setchell's side a slim half-time advantage.

Turner nearly doubled his advantage five minutes into the second-half when he curled an effort just wide and he turned creator minutes later when his fine one-two with Yong created an opening for Lynn's left back. However, the marauding full-back's effort was saved well by Lavin.

Mark Forbes' tremendous goal-line clearance kept his side in the game when Defty's header - from debutant Kieron Davies' fine cross - had the visitors' keeper beaten all ends up.

Yong's tremendous 30-yard strike sparked the game back into life as the Linnets scored two goals in as many minutes with Defty heading home Davies' cross from close range to extend Lynn's lead.

Lynn's new winger's impressive debut continued when his cross was spilled into the path of Turner who scored from close range and a fine turn and shot from the edge of the box by substitute Robbie Harris made it five to seal another fine Lynn win.
