Flying full-back Jordan Yong admits he stayed at King's Lynn Town because the big games just keep coming.

The highly-rated defender is relishing this afternoon's trip to Worksop Town as the Linnets look to continue their fine run in this season's FA Trophy.

And after turning down offers from higher-level Lowestoft and St Neots, the pacy left-back insists today's first round tie only confirms he made the right call in staying at The Walks.

The 22-year-old said: 'You get big games at King's Lynn because it's a big club. The chairman (Keith 'Buster' Chapman) and the gaffer (Gary Setchell) want to push forward and try and get us up to the Conference.

'As an ambitious young player that's where I want to be one day. Lynn is just the right club at the moment. We're playing well, we're second in the league and we're enjoying a run in the Trophy. My confidence is very high and I'm in a happy place.

'These are the games as a youngster you want to play in. If you ask any of the other youngsters at Lynn they'll say the same. I'm really looking forward to it.'

The former Wisbech Town ace, who played for the Fenmen under his current boss Setchell, has been in scintillating form this term as Lynn have enjoyed a great start to life at Step Four.

But Yong believes he isn't the only player in The Walks' dressing room who will be arriving in Nottinghamshire with a spring in their step.

Higher-level sides Barwell, Carshalton Athletic and Eastbourne Borough – who play two levels above Evo-Stik Division One South Lynn – have already been seen off in this term's Trophy and now Setchell's left-back is hoping to make Worksop their latest victim.

Yong said: 'Beating the other sides in the Trophy is a massive confidence boost. As a team we feel this is a game we can win. If we play how we played against Eastbourne we have got a very good chance of winning.

'They will be favourites, especially as they are at home, but being away doesn't really bother us. We tend to take quite a lot of fans away anyway. They are the 12th man for us. It's nice at home to have a big crowd but the fans still get behind us well on the road and that extra support always helps.

'On Saturday we lost at home to Belper but we came out second half and looked like a different team. We never ever gave up. And that's the idea we're going into the game with tomorrow. If we find it's not going our way after 20 minutes we will never give up.'

The confident mood enveloping the Lynn camp – despite three defeats on the bounce in all competitions – has only increased with defender Phil Gulliver and captain Richard Bunting being available to face the Tigers.

The pair's suspensions for getting sent off at Sutton Coldfield are yet to kick in and both are expected to start against higher-level Worksop, managed by former Lynn player Simon Clark, much to the relief of Yong.

He said: 'It's a massive boost as a back four to have Bunts sitting in front of us and offering protection.

'Having Phil in the side is a huge plus because it's like having a senior pro in the team. He brings something other players don't to the game.

'For me, he's been one of our best players so far this season, so it's massive that they're available.'

Defender Jason Lee is back in contention after returning from his holiday – where Setchell says he deserves credit for losing weight despite being on an all-inclusive trip.

And the Linnets' boss showed similar hard work and dedication when he made the trip to Babbage Way to watch Worksop win their replay against much-fancied Chester to set up today's tie.

He said: 'Worksop started so fast. They were 2-0 up in 20 minutes and it could have been four or five by half-time.

'As a team they were organised and they've got good footballers all over the pitch. They made Chester look very average and I fully expect us to have to try and weather an early storm.

'If we can try and keep it tight for 30 minutes the natives will get a bit restless – and hopefully we can capitalise on that. It's definitely our biggest test yet.

'If we play our A-game we've got a chance but we're not going there to make the numbers up. We'll be looking to win the game.'

Alex Street will again deputise in goal for cup-tied Danny Gay while Pat Bexfield is also ineligible. Danny Beaumont and Sam Mulready will miss out through injury.
