Ollie Hindle and Charlotte Bell were the winners of the American mixed doubles tournament at Cringleford Tennis Club.

Sixteen boys and girls aged between 10 and 16 were competing for the Jane Bellinger Memorial Trophy which was donated to the club by her husband, Roger.

Jane was a committee member and member of Cringleford since before 1980 and ran the junior coaching section for many years so it was Roger's wish that the cup should be for a junior competition. Jane sadly died after a long illness in October 2005.

t The Aylsham club junior tennis competition proved to be an excellent tournament, well directed by the club coach Rachael Goldson.

Joe Delafield won the 16 and under group with Josh Harvey as runner-up.

In the 14 and under group, Ben Saunders was the winner with Ryan Hill the runner-up.

The doubles pairings were drawn from the hat and after a knockout competition the winners were Joe Delafield and Ben Saunders. The runners-up were Tom Brett and Ben Turner.

The trophies and prizes were presented by Rachael and David Melville the club secretary.

tThe LTA Road to Wimbledon 14/u junior tennis competition finals were held at EAT&SC, Lime Tree Road.

This is a tournament whereby individuals first compete in a club competition with the top two going through to the county finals.

The top boy and girl then go through to compete at Wimbledon in August along with every other county in the country.

In the girls' section semi finals, Amy Partridge (EAT&SC) beat Holly Fleming (Lakenham) and Olivia Nicholls (Bannatynes) beat Margherita de Martino (Esporta). Olivia emerged the victor over Amy with a 6-3, 6-0 win.

In the boys' section, Rory Nicklin (Lakenham) beat David Lambert (Esporta) and Dominic Eley (EAT&SC) beat Harry Weeds (Lakenham) in a very tight three setter. Rory emerged the winner over Dominic with a 6-4, 6-0 scoreline.

tThe Norfolk 60+ men's team opened their campaign in commanding style by beating Northumberland 5-0 at Lakenham.

Although captain Mike Huggins had to pull out at short notice with a back injury, the team rose to the occasion.

Tony Spurgeon was promoted to a singles role and both he, and the other singles player, Jim Wiseman, pointed the way to the team's success with two-set victories.

Meanwhile, Lyndan Barker, on his debut, and Ivan Winter fought well to beat the Northumberland doubles specialists - also in two sets to establish a winning margin.

The two second round doubles matches then produced the icing on the cake with both Tony and Jim and Ivan and Lyndan playing solid doubles to give Norfolk their resounding victory.
