A Norwich School student has won the County Arts Bowls Club's Gordon Royal Trophy for under-18s.

Ben Groat, 14, won a close contest against Tom Hodds in an exciting and closely fought contest.

The game swung back and forth, with both boys bowling well but Ben took four shots on the 15th end and held on to win 21-14.

Both boys were congratulated by the president of the club, Pat Clover, and others who had stayed to watch the game.

Ben started bowling two years ago and already holds his English Indoor Bowling Associations bronze award.

He is currently training for his silver Award.

County Arts is committed to encouraging young players into the sport.

Anyone wishing to try the sport should contact the club on 01603 434529 or the coach co-ordinator, Paul Segolo, on 01603 713272.
