Parsonage helped Great Britain to win its first ever quadruple sculls medal at the World Junior Championships in Hamburg on Sunday.

The 17-year-old Poringland rower was given the responsibility of the control position of bow, alongside Rowan Law, Samuel Meijer and Chris Lawrie.

The GB crew claimed second place to win a silver medal after finishing just two seconds behind winners Germany, finishing the 2,000-metre course in 06.46.420 in a thrilling race.

The Germans had a half-length lead with 500m to go but GB made a push and as the boats entered the final 250m had narrowed the gap to a canvas only for Germany to respond and power on to victory.

'That was probably one of the closest races of the day and Chris Lawrie lost his blades twice and recovered because of the rough conditions,' said Layng.

The close battle was recognised by the two crews with a great display of sportsmanship which saw two German rowers join the GB boat and two British rowers join the German boat for the paddle away from the medal rostrum to the boat-houses.
