Broadland and Norwich Dragons were involved in an exciting opening day fixture in East League Division 2NE, with Dragons edging it 3-2.

Dragons' first penalty corner saw Marie James put the visitors ahead.

Stung by this setback Broadland got back into the game when a loose ball fell invitingly for Holly Becker, who hammered home her opening first team goal.

Broadland lost possession within seconds of the restart and James advanced into the circle to put Dragons back in front. Broadland continued to battle away but were undone again when Debbie Smith scored in similar circumstances.

Nikki Kent gave Broadland hope as she converted by the post to keep her side in the game. But despite some opportunities neither side could find another goal in the second half. Star player for Broadland was Kelly Rolfe and for Dragons Shelley Seaman.

Dereham got off to a winning start against Watton in Division 1N, edging home 2-1.

Dereham grabbed the first goal. midway through the second half when some great work from Rachel Cramp paid dividends as youngster Bex Hazell scored on her first team league debut. Hazell scored again before Watton capitalised on a deflection for a consolation.

A newly formed Norwich Dragons second team had plenty of possession against Yarmouth but lacked the killer instinct and were beaten 4-0. Dragons' player of the match was Maddie Denman while keeper Freddie Briscoe almost saved a penalty flick.

North Walsham made a confident start to the new season with a comfortable 4-1 win at Loddon. Against the run of play Loddon scored first but Walsham were soon level through Lucy Spencer.

They continued to press and got a second soon after when Sarah Powell crashed the ball home.

The second half was more of the same and Walsham were rewarded when Hannah Catling scored from a short corner. Walsham then hit the post three times and had a goal ruled out before Catling scored her second of the game to complete the scoring.

In the Marshall's Motor Group League Norwich City's second string beat their thirds 6-0. Annabelle Phoenix scored the opener and new captain Lauren Lawrie made it 2-0 before the break. Further goals from Lawrie, Emma Wood, Sue Tomlinson (2) and Phoenix completed an impressive victory.

Thetford Ladies beat Pelicans II 4-0. From a short corner, Dawn Heavey put the ball perfectly in the left hand corner. Some good, passing from Leanne Smith and Sarah Nichol, opened up play for the second goal. Heavey shot the ball high over the keeper who deflected, and Kathy Hammond pounce to score. Hammond followed with a second from open play, and Heavey also had a second from a short corner.

Diss were beaten 2-1 at Beccles in the first Premier Division game, with Sam Howard on target.

Dereham II beat Dereham III 6-0 (Zoe Leveret 2, Kim Hazell Bex Hazell, Fran Grapes 2).
