A Norwich dentist has been picked to treat the world's best athletes at this year's Olympics in London.

For Dr Bimesh Sawhney, who owns and runs Riverside Dental at Wherry Road, being picked to live in the Olympic Village and tinker with the teeth of top athletes, is a dream come true.

This is because Mr Sawhney, who volunteered his services and will be working without pay, is a good sport himself.

My friends told me to apply for it because I love sport. I play football, hockey, tennis, squash, and I just got back from skiing, said Mr Sawhney.

Mr Sawhney recently opened up his practice at the home of the former beauty salon Snakehips, at Riverside, after graduating from the famous Guys Hospital.

He has tickets for the Games the football final, or gold match but is most looking forward to mingling with the athletes.

If anyone needs treating, Im there.

Hopefully Ill pick up some autographs and wont be needed when the football is on! he said.

This is great for me, combining what I do with my love.

Mr Sawhney is not certain where he will be most needed, and autographs might not be the only thing he has to pick up.

It might be for emergencies, for the boxing or martial arts, I could be searching for teeth in the ring. Playing hockey means I have seen and treated a few things, such as my battered and bleeding friends, so I think I can cope.

I cant wait, it will be good experience and something to build on for the practice.

Mr Sawhney, who is 31 on Thursday, has lived in the city for seven years, and has taught at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and Ipswich Hospital.

He used to play hockey for Norwich Dragons Hockey Club.
