A record entry of 600 runners helped create a fantastic atmosphere for runners to start their racing year off in style at the Wymondham New Year's day 10K run.

The weather held out long enough to get most of the runners through in the dry.

Although the course has some tough climbs in parts and turned out to be fairly windy there were some impressive performances.

First home in the men's race was Tom Hook (CoNAC) in 32.18. Simon Millet (Windsor Slough Eaton & Hounslow) worked with Tom for the first eight kilometres before dropping off the pace to finish in 32.29. Chris Merlyees (North Norfolk Beach Runners) was third in 34.38. Luke Alden (CoNAC) and Joseph Kirton (CoNAC) both finished inside the top 10 to help secure the men's team prize with Hook.

In the ladies race, Nicola Alford (CONAC) pulled away to secure a win in 39.48 closely followed by Kim Morrision (unattached) in 39.59 and Sophie Alden (CONAC) in 40.36. Nicola and Sophie were joined by Julia Parsley to secure the team prize for CoNAC with a solid team performance from the Norwich-based club.
