Josh Coley has described his switch to Norwich City as 'a dream come true'.

The 19-year-old winger has gone from the Canaries of non-league, hometown club Hitchin Town, to signing a one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months after a successful trial spell.

Largely playing on the left wing, the former York winger was top scorer for loan club Baldock Town last season with 21 goals to help seal promotion to step five of the non-league.

'I'd been bouncing around a few different clubs,' Coley explained. 'Hitchin were my parent club and I had also been at Arlesey Town and Histon Town but I didn't really play at either of those clubs.

'I was sent out to Baldock last season and was told my situation would be reviewed in December. I knew I needed to just smash it because my main aim was to get into Hitchin's team.

'By December I had 11 goals and 14 assists and I thought I had the chance to break through but nothing came of it.

'I stayed at Baldock and had an amazing season and I have to thank the club because they have been great to me.

'As well as playing, I've been working for a local firm recently under one of the guys who plays for Hitchin. I was trying to learn a few trades as well so to go from that to now having a professional contract here is a huge change.

'I was working five days a week, doing the stuff that no one really wants to do, and now I'm playing football full-time. It's a dream come true.'

Coley goes into Matt Gill's development squad and was one of the starting XI in a 2-0 defeat to Colchester United at the League Two club's training ground on Tuesday – bringing the U23s back down to earth after their 6-0 thrashing of Borussia Dortmund U23s last week.

'From an overall point-of-view, it's a good thing to happen to the boys,' Gill said, also speaking to City's official website. 'We had a great tour culminating in a good win over Borussia Dortmund so if anything it's grounded the lads again and made them recognise what's important.

'They are young lads and there is going to be some inconsistency.'

The U23s' next friendly is away at National League side Sutton on Saturday (12pm).
