Wes Hoolahan wants to mark 10 years at Norwich City with promotion back to the Premier League.

The recently-crowned player-of-the-season is targeting a massive 2018, as he clocks up a decade of service at Carrow Road.

Hoolahan, however, is warning City's squad they must buck up their ideas after missing out on the Championship top six.

'I want to get promoted in my 10th season,' he said. 'To be honest this was a disappointing season because we were favourites to go up and we didn't. It was a nice way to finish for me personally though, scoring two goals and winning the player-of-the-year. We just need to build on that next season.

'There were a lot of players let go and we will hopefully bring in some new ones to get us promoted to the Premier League.

'Stuart Webber is going to look for a coach to come in with new ideas. I have one more year left and that will be 10 years at Norwich but I know there are a lot of talented players here now in my position in (Alex) Pritchard and James Maddison.

'This year we suffered from mistakes and a lack of concentration at times. In games where we looked like we would go on and win or were coming back into it we might get a man sent off. A lot of things didn't go our way at times but at the end of the day we were not good enough as a whole squad.

'Listen, we have some great players here still so if we can keep those and add one or two more then we can push on.'

Hoolahan is not ruling out making Norfolk his home when he retires from the game.

'Norwich is a beautiful place to live, you are right by the beach and the family are settled here,' he said, speaking to Dublin-based radio station 98FM. 'They have been here 10 years and it is a great place to bring the children up. We haven't decided yet what we do in the future but we would probably stay in Norwich.'

The Republic of Ireland international is set to return to action as early as next month after being called up for his country's 2018 World Cup qualifier against Austria.

Martin O'Neill's squad face a trip to America for a warm up friendly against Mexico before hosting Uruguay in a final preparation game.
