The Canaries survived a scare at Wycombe to book their place in the fourth round of the League Cup at Adams Park.

Jordan Rhodes notched a hat-trick and had another goal disallowed on an entertaining evening at the plucky League One club. City appeared to be cruising, when Rhodes grabbed his third to put Daniel Farke's much-changed side 4-1 up early in the second half.

But Wycombe were awarded a penalty after Alex Samuel tumbled under Ben Godfrey's desperate challenge as the defender tried to retrieve Michael McGovern's weak pass.

Farke was convinced following the game referee Simpson had made the wrong call, but that sparked a second half fightback from the Chairboys before City held firm.

Norwich return to Championship action on Saturday against Wigan bidding to extend their six-match unbeaten run.
