Coventry City hot shot Callum Wilson has opted to sign for Bournemouth after holding talks with the Cherries and Championship rivals Norwich City.

The 22-year-old frontman has signed a four-year deal with Eddie Howe's side after speaking to both clubs during recent days in a deal which the Coventry Evening Telegraph reported this afternoon will be worth an initial £2.25m.

As part of the deal Bournemouth have also agreed to loan winger Mohamed Coulibaly and goalkeeper Ryan Allsop to the Sky Blues until January.

The deal was confirmed this evening, allowing Wilson to join up with his new team-mates for a pre-season tour in Austria.

The Canaries were hoping to add Wilson to previous summer striker signings Lewis Grabban and Kyle Lafferty, but the lure of regular first team football is believed to have tipped the balance in favour of the south coast club.

Coventry City confirmed this morning they had granted permission for last season's 22-goal top scorer to discuss personal terms with two clubs but Sky Blues' development director Steve Waggott, speaking to the CET, had warned about the dangers of Wilson stunting his career development by limiting his game time after an impressive first full season in professional football.

The Canaries have already brought in Lafferty and Grabban to add to the likes of Gary Hooper, Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Jamar Loza, but Waggott admitted Coventry could not hope to match the financial muscle of clubs like Norwich.

'It's pointless him going to a massive club and sitting on the bench,' he said. 'He's got to kick on. I would love it to be with us but he's at the juncture which is absolutely life changing because I know exactly how much has been offered to him, communicated through his agent. It's one of those situations where success can work against you as a football club but I've got a policy where I never, ever stand in the way of a player or a manager if it's deemed to be the right thing.'
