Transfer rumour mill: Norwich City bid for Brighton’s Craig Mackail-Smith ‘in pipeline’

City manager Chris Hughton is reported to be preparing a bid for 3m-rated Brighton striker Craig Mackail-Smith in January after missing out on him in the summer.

Mackail-Smith, 28, has scored 10 goals in the Championship this season and one national newspaper claims the Canaries are chasing his signature again, two years after he was a target for former boss Paul Lambert.

City are also reported to be the mystery Premier League club that are close to signing Zambian striker Jacob Mulenga, from Utrecht.

The 28-year-old recently admitted that his agents were in talks with a club in the English top-flight although the Canaries rejected reports he was watching the 4-3 defeat by Manchester City at Carrow Road.

Mulenga is currently top scorer for Utrecht in the Dutch Eredivisie with seven goals in 16 appearances.
