The FA Youth Cup adventure has come to an end for another season for Norwich City Under-18s, after being beaten 2-0 by a composed Tottenham side in Stevenage.

The young Canaries fell 2-0 behind in the first half and weren't able to force their way back into the tie after the break, missing out on a trip to Newcastle in the sixth round.

David Wright's team had impressively won 5-1 at Watford in the third round and 4-0 at Burnley to earn a place in the last 16 but found Spurs too strong.

The visitors started brightly, with Louis McIntosh lashing over in just the second minute after Timi Odusina knocked a Glenn Middleton corner back into the box.

It was Spurs who claimed the lead though, with striker Kazaiah Sterling proving too strong for City left-back Toby Syme, muscling his way onto the end of a through ball from Samuel Shashoua into the right channel, before lashing a low shot into the bottom-left corner.

After a sluggish start, Spurs were good value for their lead and the City players were looking frustrated.

Confidence was flowing for the home team and they doubled their lead in the 30th minute, when Dylan Duncan played Sterling clean through and he rolled a left-footed strike under Fergal Hale-Brown into the bottom-right corner for 2-0.

Spurs were rampant and should have made it 3-0 four minutes later when skipper George Marsh played Sterling into the right channel with a quick free-kick, only for Syme to recover with a goal-saving block.

McIntosh was booked for a late tackle on Tottenham right-back Timoty Eyoma in the 39th minute, letting his frustration show.

Odusina was struggling to hide his annoyance as well when Sterling fouled him for the third time but the Spurs striker escaped with a telling off from the referee.

City survived without conceding further before the break but Fergal-Brown was forced into a good parry by the lively Shashoua, with right-back Max Aarons in the right place to clear the loose ball.

Spurs sat back in the second half and allowed the Canaries to probe but continued to threaten on the counter and nearly found a third in the 59th minute, when Sterling spread right to Shashoua and his low cross was nearly turned in by Bennetts from six yards, only to be crowded out.

City substitute Alan Fleming stung the gloves of Alfie Whiteman in the 84th minute as the visitors tried to force the issue but they couldn't revive their hopes.
